Becoming a parent can take a little time to get used to. Now you have a new member of the family. In order to achieve a happy balance, it is important to integrate parenting with your other important roles in life as a woman, a partner, and perhaps working as well.

A healthy balance

When you have decided the time is right, it is natural to want to go back to work. It is also natural to want to spend all of your time with your little miracle!
With a little organisation, your return to work will be easier, from explaining it to your baby, to trusting the babysitter (or childcare centre). Do take time to manage the transition, both from an emotional and practical perspective.
Being a mum means giving lots of tender loving care. But you need a little attention too sometimes! Take time out for yourself. You really do deserve ‘me time’!, those special moments where you can think about yourself. You deserve it!

Working as a team

Parenting is an important partnership. Not only do you both have a lot to offer your baby, but you are also a vital source of support for each other. See the importance of sharing things as parents, from your decisions on authority, to your places at the meal table.

Sharing decisions Deciding how to bring a child up is not the specific role of the mother or father. It’s about working things out together. Right from the start, John and I sat down and really talked about how we would educate our baby. Juliet, 39.
